The first time I met Mike was when he was sent to me for an interview to do testing on our software. I offered him a cup of tea and I remember him asking for a quarter of a spoon of sugar. It was clearly an exact requirement, so I delegated to him to add his own sugar! In some ways that sums up one aspect of Mike’s personality 100% - he was very precise about facts etc. which, as Lin has pointed out, could lead to long debates. He was great at the testing job and, due to his amazing potential to recall facts and figures, ended up correcting mistakes that the content creators had made which was above and beyond what was expected of him. Also he was incredibly supportive of me in my role as his manager. I’m glad that our friendship remained and grew long after the company had disappeared. Both Lin and Mike saw me through some very difficult times without ever judging me, just providing the support and encouragement that I needed. Mike truly was a special man. He had a great sense of humour, played his music quite loud at times and would tell you to “Naff off” if you tried to wind him up. He was also one of the most honest and principled people I’ve ever known. Rest in peace my friend xx
